Body Scanning

A Practice:

Body scanning is a practice centered around bodily awareness and sensational presence. It grounds you in the present moment by getting you to slow down by noticing any sensations you may be feeling. It can also reduce anxious thought patterns and is used in many different forms of therapy.

Start at your toes and work your way to the crown of your head

Notice any feelings of warmth or coldness radiating from your body

Send breath to any tightness or pain

Become aware of any areas you are clenching or creating tension and release them

Take inventory of your general feeling and overall health at the moment

Listen to your 5 sense: the smells, tastes, feelings, sights, and sounds

Focus your awareness on anything external touching your body: the ground, your clothes, your hair on your shoulder

Release any thoughts and take 10 deep breaths
